CONVERTIBLE GRAIN HAULER

Writer's picture: Sean McCoySean McCoy

The trailer in this photo is your standard Flat Bed with a headache rack with some specialty-built sides and top to be able to pull double duty. The set up is familiar to me because one of my oldest influencers in trucking was a neighbor who ran this set up on the regular.

Wilhelm (Butch) would set up at home before he went out to load grain in Kansas to haul into Chicago for a tortilla plant and back down some narrow alley to offload. After the trailer had been emptied, He would stow the sides and top to load out steel to bring back to western Nebraska. The man built a trucking company around this run and did very well for himself.

The truck in this photo is an early seventies Peterbilt. it is not super uncommon to see a farmer pull his shed queen out to harvest here in the Midwest. This one is at one of my favorite shows the Big Iron in Kasson, MN.
