The phone rings yesterday after lunch and it is one of my trucker buddies.
He says, “I am in Nebraska and I will be going through Omaha on I 80 later today”.
Know it is not everyday that I get the chance to see some of my friends that drive truck for a living. I like to take them out for a good meal at a restaurant and I am not talking about McDonalds either. Since I am well-traveled one thing, I like to do is visit a local restaurant not a chain. I figure most guys eat at the truck stop or a chain restaurant enough already.
So where did I take my friend who pulled a 13’6 wide load for me last week?
The restaurant is called Johnny’s Café it is well known and has been open for decades. It started out next to the stock yards in a much smaller building than it is in today. The place is well known for being some of the best steaks in Omaha. It was also a favorite place for my Grandfather to visit for dinner in his day.
What is nice is my friend surprised me and paid for dinner saying it would be my turn next time. What a great guy.
