Going out on a run part two - The phone call.

Writer's picture: Sean McCoySean McCoy

The phone rang late on a Saturday night, it was a high-profile client.

As with all my customers, I answer the phone any time it rings. It was Jim he said, “I need panel four in California in the next two weeks, can you pull it off again?”. My reply was as always, “Yes Jim”.

The machine itself is the centerpiece of their operation and with out it nothing happens. It has some special things about it that the State of California does not like and required some extra time with the permits people.

I had been so troubled by the state the last time I went with the truck to ensure its delivery. This time I went for the same reasons and I had yet to produce the permits for the truck. Brokers like me have their go to guys we use in instances like this mine is Ricardo. Since we had taken machine five to California the previous year It was a no brainer to call my friend.

Without the permits, I bought my plane tickets and set up the hotels I would need to stay while on the road. The machine itself was over a thousand miles from my office at the client’s home shop. It was in for repair, and the constant modifications being done to improve it.
