Almost everyone who owns their own rig is very proud of their machine as they should be.
Some guys talk about fuel mileage, others about reliability, and some talk about just how fast can them trucks go?
It is amazing the different ways guys will set up a rig to run. Most truckers are after fuel economy which usually means tall rubber, and taller gears. With most trucks having around two-thousand-foot pounds of torque, and eighteen forward speeds you can see it has the potential to get away from you.
Today I took a phone call from a trucker bragging up his 1995 Freightliner Classic. Let us call him “Bob”. His story starts out a guy with a new truck was calling him out on the radio talking trash about his pride and joy. Bob replied over the radio “well buddy let her go and we will see if I can keep up”. The trucker who was out to show off dropped the hammer it was on. The two went screaming down the highway Bob come on the radio and says, “Is that all she has got?”. Bob was determined to win so he let that freightliner eat and much to the surprise of the new truck owner Bob came around him at well over a hundred miles an hour, smoke just as black as coal billowing from the stacks. Grinning ear to ear as he went past…
